BCDC purchased this property from heirs of an owner of the house since at least 1950. She died in 2008 at 87 years old. Her husband died in 1966. It appears that before BCDC acquired it, this house was in the same family since at least the 1930s.
County records state the house was built in 1951, however, the original doors and knobs are much older than that. There was a permit issued to the owner in 1951 for a frame addition. This could have been to finish the attic and widen the house. The roof on the right side of the house looks like it could be from an addition.
An article in the Belleville News Democrat in August 1950 had the owner living at this address in 1950, so the house must’ve been there before 1951.
The 1935 Belleville City Directory has a house at 125a S 35th, which does not exist. It lists a person with the same last name as the 1950-51 owner as living there. The 10/20/1937 Belleville News Democrat shows a delinquent tax bill of $8.35 on Lot 14 in Tates Addition, owned by the same person listed in the 1935 Belleville City Directory.
Based off of this information, the original doors and knobs in the house and the dates other houses on the street were built, the best guess for this house would be the 1910s with an addition being added and remodeling done in 1951.
